Keswick Creamery Cheese CSA

COMMUNITY SHARED AGRICULTURE (CSA) is an alternative local food funding/marketing model. CSAs create a direct link between consumers and one or more farmers to address two main problems:

1. Diminishing the risk farmers bear in the food production and distribution process

2. Raising consumers’ awareness of their food supply

Members pay a lump sum in advance for a designated share of the season’s harvest, helping defray farmers’ upfront costs of production and distribution. In return, the member receives a weekly basket filled with foodstuffs harvestable at that time.

COMMUNITY SHARED AGRICULTURE (CSA) is an approach to growing and purchasing food products in which the farmer and consumer work cooperatively. The farmer wins a guaranteed market; the consumer gains high quality, fresh food, as it becomes available. In addition the consumer “votes” with their food dollars to support local farmers

Why a Keswick CSA now?

My parents are divorcing and my father insists on “cashing out” his half of the farm, quickly. Mark and I would like to buy his share of the farm to continue farming and making cheese here.

Of course the biggest challenge in an economy like this is raising the capital, especially in such a short time frame. So we are funding our buyout using the principles of COMMUNITY SHARED AGRICULTURE.

We need to raise $300,000 by September 1, 2010. So we are selling CSA shares to Keswick Creamery. Help support our goal and dream of continuing to farm here and get great cheese for you, your friends and family.

How does it work?

Like other CSA plans, a subscription entails a prepayment in return for future delivery of product. Join by choosing from one of our three Subscription Plans.

You will receive your cheese over the next 5 years, starting in September, 2010.

There are two convenient options to receive your cheese:

VOUCHERS: receive cheese vouchers to exchange for cheese at markets, or at our farm store over a five year period

or

BOXES: receive cheese boxes shipped to you (or someone you designate) twice a year for five years

In addition by joining our CSA community you will be invited to fun community activities. We will have yearly farm tours and demos with a picnic and music. We will have walking trails and a campsite on the farm that our CSA community can use.
